Paul Rodgers & Debbie Bonham Concert report

On Saturday December 3rd our Trustee Debbie Bonham and Patron Paul Rodgers played a rock concert at The Venue in Chichester with all of the proceeds coming to The Racehorse Sanctuary. What a night it turned out to be. The evening kicked off with at 7pm with a group of youngsters called Room 4 who played extremely well as a warm up for Debbie herself who gave a very emotionally charged speech about the charity and her past experiences and then performed fantastically in the company of her band led by her husband Peter Bullick. At around 9pm Paul stepped onto the stage and within minutes the entire building was lit up by his incredible voice and the equally incredible performance of Debbie’s band backing him.

After several encores Paul finally left the stage and was followed by performances from his daughter Jasmine and then his son Stephen who both put on scintillating shows individually.

Our thanks go to Desert Orchid’s ex-jockey Colin Brown who auctioned off some super items coupled up with several silent auction items and thanks also to Sue & Emma Halson who manned our stand for the evening. Such an incredible event doesn’t put itself together and whilst the stars of the show were of course Debbie and Paul, there were so many people who worked furiously and meticulously to make sure that everything went like clockwork and we thank them all. However, there are two people who I must single out as they both took a very low profile and yet between them were the hub of the whole event, they are our patron Cynthia Kereluk and Debbie’s husband Peter. We cannot thank them enough for the passion and dedication they have for the cause.

In excess of £36,000 was raised by this event, which we are all still reeling from, and early indications are that, thanks to Paul, it could well take place again in 2012.
