The sun shine’s for the final Open Day at Stonehouse Stables

Having just suffered almost a week of none stop rain at 12.30pm on Sunday 10th August the clouds cleared and the shone for the rest of the day clearing the way for almost perfect conditions for our final open day here at Stonehouse Stables.
Those invited came from far a field to see the horses currently here at Stonehouse Stables and they weren’t disappointed as every horse behaved impeccably and thoroughly enjoyed showing off in the ménage.
When the horses had finished parading all spectators handed in their sheets for the “Racehorse Sanctuary X-Factor” competition in which every horse received points for a)The most attractive”, b) The Horse you would most like to take home with you if you were in a position to do so and c) The horse you most admire.
The horse that came out on top was Moorcroft Boy, in second place was Jack Cairo, third was Supercilious and fourth was Secret Jewel. Mr Brookes and his family gained marks closest to the master sheet and went home with a bottle of Champagne for their win.
When the horses from the centre had finished their parade we were all treated to a super dressage demonstration by Pippa Brander riding her own ex-racehorse Just Jesting, this really captured the attention of the audience showing just what and ex-racehorse is capable of given the opportunity.
The day ended with and auction of some super items donated by members, a well supported raffle, a home produce stall and lots of food and drink which was kindly sponsored by Phil Collins, Nigel Alderman and Sally Sandercock.
We have had some super feedback from those who attended saying how much they had enjoyed the day and the icing on the cake was the just under £2000 raised on the day for the centre.
Our thanks go to our trustees and volunteers who worked so hard to make the day so successful.
