Visitors day at the sanctuary
On Sunday 3rd September the gates were open to friends and supporters for the first time since setting up at Stonehouse Stables.

The weather was definitely on our side as although it rained consistently throughout the morning when people started to arrive at 2.30pm the sun came out and lasted right through to 6.30pm when the last person left. Around 70 people turned up to give their support and thoroughly enjoyed seeing the horse’s parade followed by a very elegant side saddle display performed by an ex-racehorse. Both Sue and I found it so encouraging that so many people were there to back us up in this venture and although the function was set up as an awareness day as opposed to a fund raising day nearly £2000 was donated. I have to give a huge vote of thanks to those who helped organise the day as Sue and I would never have managed alone. Gaynor, Viv, Mary, Val & Nick, Natasha, Elaine and Michael not to mention our directors Colin, Pauline and Debbie all did so much toward making the day such a success.

The rate at which this centre is growing is absolutely amazing so subject to surviving the initial setting up period I am convinced that the Racehorse Sanctuary is going to be a huge success and succeed in offering a bright future to those horses who aren’t as straight forward as many of the horses that leave the industry. |
