Sanctuary exceeds all expectations

Sanctuary

Julie Routledge-Martin Patron of our charity and owner of several racehorses in training including Sanctuary along with all concerned at the centre are very excited and proud to be involved with this super 3-y-o gelding by Dr Fong.

Having waited patiently for a considerable time as he was a late developer Sanctuary made his racecourse debut at Newcastle on 15th May where although being left in the stalls at the off he managed to work his way through the field and finish in a very credible 3rd place. His second run came at Haydock Park on 29th May in which along with one other runner who was rated far higher than his he bravely fought out the finish to go down by just a neck giving him 2nd place. On June 11th Sanctuary returned to Haydock Park to have his third and final run before being handicapped and quite frankly outclassed the field and came home the winner by some 2 ½ lengths with plenty left in the tank.

Now on holiday for a while Sanctuary who is trained in the north by Bryan Smart looks to have a very exciting future ahead of him and Julie has very generously donated a percentage of his winnings to our charity. Keep an eye open for him in the Racing Post and of course support group members will receive regular updates of his progress in their quarterly newsletters.
