First attempt at a Quiz Evening is a huge success

On the evening of Friday 19th June we had the first Racehorse Sanctuary Quiz Evening, which will now become a permanent fixture on the annual calendar of events.

This was new territory for us having never actually run this type of function before so I must thank all those committee members who worked so hard to make it such an enjoyable evening for all those who came along to support.

The evening started at 7.30 pm in the gallery if the indoor school when members of the eleven teams that had entered in advance filed in and took their seats. We were so lucky in that we had none other than Gary Stevens the former England and Tottenham Hotspur football player now turned TV presenter and football pundit as our quiz master.

Gary was extremely entertaining in the way that he conducted the evening creating a lot of banter between the teams, to top it all before leaving he signed up to become a member of our support group.

After nine rounds which included a picture round, a music round and an equestrian round the winners emerged as the 6/4 favs The Evergreens but only just as one point behind them were The Jabalpur Jokers. No doubt The Evergreen team will be back next year to defend their title and try to retain their shield; however I feel sure that the other ten teams plus several more will be joining in as such fun was had by all.

Our thanks also go to Ben Jones son of support group member Val who spent so much time compiling the questions, these all proved to be at exactly the right level apart from the equestrian round which was the only one that I personally provided and suffice to say that other than one team who scored 5 out of 8 the other teams managed only 1 or a maximum of 2 correct answers, I’ve a feeling that I might be replaced next year.
