Horses at Belmoredean Stud
Acomb
This chap, in my opinion, is the dark horse at the centre in that I do believe that in the right hands he could well turn out to be quite special. In the stable he is an absolute gentleman in every respect as he has no stable vices and loves to be played around with and given any form of attention. The same applies to being turned out into the paddocks or brought back in from them.
Under saddle is another story in that he doesn’t do anything wrong but he does lack confidence in a big way. He seems worried about doing something wrong and what the consequences might be if he did. He moves very nicely and he desperately wants to trust his rider but finds it very difficult. When he breaks through this barrier and allows himself to enjoy his work I feel that there could well be some surprises in store as far as his capabilities are concerned.
Acomb needs a special person to become his best friend and share a one to one relationship with him, this is why we have sent him for an educational holiday with Sheila a good friend of ours over in Kent who has a very quiet yard and can concentrate on giving him plenty of attention. Hopefully he will spend the rest of his days with Sheila but if he does come back to the centre he will have learnt a lot and be ready for re-homing, at least this way he isn’t being rushed.
